Why I Became a Chiropractor: My Journey to CARE Chiropractic & Wellness

Frisco Chiropractor - Dr. Mike Vilelo

If you’ve been a patient of mine for years, you may know parts of my story. But with the launch of CARE Chiropractic & Wellness, I thought it would be a good time to share how I found chiropractic care and why I chose this profession.

My First Experience with Chiropractic Care

My journey into chiropractic care started long before I ever became a chiropractor myself.

After knee surgery at a young age, the way I walked changed dramatically. Over time, those changes affected my body mechanics and eventually led to significant lower back pain throughout my teenage years.

Like many people dealing with chronic pain, I tried different approaches in hopes of finding relief. Unfortunately, nothing seemed to provide a lasting solution.

Eventually, my parents decided to take me to a local chiropractor.

That decision would change my life.

Not only did chiropractic care help relieve my back pain, but I began noticing improvements in other areas as well. I recovered more quickly after sports, felt less sore, experienced fewer allergy symptoms, and even seemed to get sick less often.

Most importantly, chiropractic care introduced me to a natural, proactive approach to health and wellness that made a lasting impact on my life.

The Mentor Who Changed My Future

The chiropractor who helped me during those years would eventually become both my mentor and one of the biggest reasons I chose this profession.

Watching how he cared for patients and seeing the impact he had on people’s lives showed me that chiropractic care was about much more than simply treating pain.

It was about helping people move better, feel better, and live healthier lives.

From that point on, I knew I wanted a career that allowed me to make a similar difference in the lives of others.

Education and Training

I attended The Pennsylvania State University for my undergraduate studies before earning my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from New York Chiropractic College in 2010.

Since then, I have spent more than 15 years helping patients of all ages with conditions including:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Sciatica
  • Disc injuries
  • Headaches
  • Sports injuries
  • Stiffness and mobility issues
  • Wellness and maintenance care

Every patient is unique, which is why I believe in taking the time to understand each individual’s goals, concerns, and health history before creating a personalized treatment approach.

What I Love Most About Being a Chiropractor

While helping people find relief from pain is incredibly rewarding, my favorite part of being a chiropractor is seeing patients return to the activities they love.

Whether that’s playing sports, traveling, exercising, keeping up with children or grandchildren, or simply getting through the workday more comfortably, those moments are what make this profession so meaningful.

Many of the patients I see today have been coming to the office for years, and I consider it a privilege to be part of their health journey.

Life Outside the Office

Today, I live in Frisco with my wife Ashleigh, our daughter Bianca, our son Remick, and our dog Shipper.

When I’m not in the office, you’ll usually find me spending time with family, coaching or playing sports, watching volleyball and soccer, gaming, or enjoying everything the Frisco community has to offer.

Looking Forward

The transition to CARE Chiropractic & Wellness represents an exciting new chapter, but the mission remains the same as it has always been: helping people move better, feel better, and live healthier lives.

I am incredibly grateful to the patients who have trusted me with their care over the years and look forward to serving the Frisco community for many years to come.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
